Elmcrest's Future Brightens!!

In the 10 months we have worked together much has changed. All positive. Now we have something to really celebrate.

Portland is one of only five towns to receive the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation’s $50,000 Vibrant Cities Initiative award, which helps communities craft action plans for "underutilized historic places or structures."

Portland’s grant application was for funds to be used for the Elmcrest Hospital site "to create a concept plan based on an updated market analysis which will provide a viable alternative for the owner/developer to consider moving the project forward."

Preservation is key to this new vision, states the application. "It is critical to the community that responsible development, including the adaptive re-use of the historic buildings, occurs on this property as a stimulus for statutorily adopted town center village district."

In a press interview, First Selectwoman Susan Bransfield stated the town will work closely with the Elmcrest Campus Advisory Committee to develop the action plan for the hospital property. "The Elmcrest property is in the heart of our downtown, so it is very important to our town's future," she said.

So more than ever we need to work together to foster the very best outcome from this opportunity.

That work begins at our next meeting:

the 3rd Monday of the month (September 15th next)

The Buck Forman Community Room

Old Town Hall (Main Street)

6:00 pm

Thanks for contributing to Portland’s future,
